Think in 12 Weeks or Stay Stuck in “Someday”
#009 - The Real Reason Most Writers Don’t Finish Their Books
The Scribe Report - A weekly dispatch for faith-filled writers birthing books that matter
Dear Scribe,
I just got off a call about something that is probably going to be one of the greatest miracles of 2026. Many things get me in my feelings, and high on the list is anything motherhood. Gosh…I cried!!! God is so kind, and I can’t wait to tell you the story when the time is right!
But for today, I want to give you the gist about a book I’ve been sitting with that has quietly rearranged my thinking. It’s called The 12-Week Year. I picked up the book thinking it would be another forgettable productivity read, but I was pleasantly surprised. It held up a mirror instead and helped me ask uncomfortable questions about execution, urgency, and what I do with the time I already have.
One line in the opening chapter, where the authors talked about how they’ve spent years helping people execute more effectively, got me thinking about my own work.
How do I help authors actually do the work?
How do I help scribes move from insight to implementation?
How do I help you increase results, not someday - but now?
Because let’s be honest: most of us don’t struggle with ideas. We struggle with execution. And that’s the heartbeat of this book - Productivity, Focus, Urgency, and Maximizing the time and capacity we already have.
How to get Breakthrough results
One of my favorite quotes in the book says:
“Breakthrough results don’t start with actions. They’re first created in your thinking.”
And the core mindset shift the book offers is simple but disruptive: Stop thinking in years. Start thinking in 12 weeks. Twelve weeks equals a year.
Now pause and sit with that.
Think about how focused people become toward the end of the year. The urgency that comes with Q4…Haha! I remember that thiswas how I wrote two books in 2023. I just knew that those books had to come out before 31st December. Mountains moved, and things got done because guess what? Urgency sharpens decisions. The 12-Week Year asks: What if you lived with that urgency all the time?
Not anxiety or panic, but with more intention. Instead of “I have all year,” it becomes “I have twelve weeks.” And suddenly, procrastination and its likes will be gone with the wind.
Vision is emotional fuel
This book also reaffirmed something I’ve always believed deeply - the power of vision. Execution is hard without an emotional connection. And that emotional connection comes from a compelling picture of the future. One line that stayed with me:
“Vision is the starting point of all high performance.”
I couldn’t agree more cos everything I’ve built - my books, my work, my community - started with vision before it ever showed up as results.
Vision gives you a reason to persist when the work gets boring, repetitive, or inconvenient. But vision alone isn’t enough. You have to plan with implementation in mind. The shift from annual planning to 12-week planning forces you to break things down further - into weekly actions, then daily execution.
Here’s the mental reframe that takes this thing up a notch: If 12 weeks is a year, then one week is a month. And Everyday is a week! LET THAT SINK IN!
And suddenly, every day carries weight. One day wasted isn’t “small” anymore, and
One focused day becomes so much more powerful.
Greatness doesn’t happen on the stage
One of my favorite chapters in thisbook was on greatness in the moment. The question the author asked was simple: When does a champion become great?
Is it when the medal is won? Or when the record is broken. Nah! Greatness happens earlier -when the person chooses, repeatedly, to do what they know they must do. The win is just the evidence.
You become great in the moment you choose consistency over comfort. I know this one so well because we have a 2025 case study that I’ve already written about - Gaise Baba (Catch up here and here)
Gaise Baba has always been great all these years - his works, Aramanda, Black Flame podcast, his music, etc. He has been about his Father’s business for years. 2025 was the confirmation of that greatness. The world just caught up. The curtains were opened for us to see, and we saw his greatness. That's the story of our lives and a question for all of us.
What will they see behind your curtain… when the spotlight is on you? For me, greatness looks like writing consistently even when it’s inconvenient. It looks like committing to my community. It looks like teaching, mentoring, building, and refining. It’s usually not glamorous, but it’s faithful execution. Results will catch up when they’re ready.
Execution needs a scoreboard
The person who made me realize the importance of tracking and keeping score in high performance is my sister, Eziaha Bolaji Olojo. She’s the queen of trackers, and I completely understand why.
Listen, my darling, Execution needs measurement ad I love how this book introduced me to the idea of lead and lag indicators. In simple terms. Lag indicators are the results you want. Lead indicators are the daily actions that produce those results. And we should track both. We will not sit around and depend on hope as a strategy. Nope.
Side note - Coach E, Scratch that, Dr. Eziaha is our 2026 official imageof transcendence because what in the” excellence” is this? BSc - Distinction. And 13 years later, MSc - Distinction. You guys, please join me to celebrate and congratulate my coach, sister, and model of possibilities, who is on a God-given mission to save the children! We track our progress and make it visible to keep us accountable to the process. Accountability is ownership. No one can make you accountablebut you can choose structures that strengthen it.
For me, accountability works best in layers:
Personal responsibility
A respected leader or coach
Community
Community matters because isolation lies. This is why I’m so big on community. Growth accelerates when you’re not doing it alone. Which brings me to why I’m sharing all this.
As I read this book, I realized I already know and teach some of these principles—but this framework gave me clearer language and structure to apply them more intentionally. And I want to practice this with my people.
Which is why, inside the SAW community, I’ll be rolling out a 12-week execution rhythm for us - visioning, planning, weekly accountability, and shared momentum.
Nothing loud or performative. Just focused on execution together.
If you’re dealing with unfinished manuscripts, delayed ideas, or you’re tired of restarting every year… this is for you. If you want to write faster, lead better, and execute with clarity. Come closer.

That’s where I’ll be sharing the full details.
Greatness is happening now—not later.
And one day, the results will simply catch up
